Director of Nursing Services


The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive, experienced and analytical individual with strong team building skills to fill the position of Director of Nursing Services, St. Anns Bay Hospital.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining an organizational framework for the delivery of optimal patient care and planning, organizing, controlling and coordinating the nursing activities in a type “B” Hospital.

Qualification & Experience

  • Certificate/Diploma/BScN from accredited institution in General Nursing.
  • Midwifery Certificate, 1st and 2nd Level Management / Advanced Nursing Administration Plus.
  • Minimum of six (6) years including Nursing Management in addition to clinical practice.

 

Specific Knowledge

  • Professional nursing theory and practice 
  • Principles of hospital administration and modern management practices 
  • Ability to identify the need to organize and participate in effective in-service training 
  • Nursing, health and related legislation 
  • National Health & Organizational Policy 
  • Research methodology, Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations and Financial Management.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing the mission objectives policies and standards for nursing care of patients which reflects the mission of the hospital. 
  • Sharing the responsibility for the management of the institution with the Senior Medical Officer, Administrator, Chief Executive Officer. 
  • Ensuring that nursing personnel are cognizant of their roles and functions. 
  • Maintaining communication between nursing personnel and other members of the health team re administrative policies. 
  • Assisting staff to interpret policies of the Ministry of Health and the mission and objectives of the institution to ensure compliance. 
  • Planning strategies with supervisors for efficient administration of units.
  • Communicating with community based organization through intersectoral collaboration.
